The One Gift You Can't Afford Not To Receive
You're Going To Die !
That is not meant as a threat but merely a fact of life. Everybody must die eventually. The Bible tells that to every man is appointed a time. Nobody knows exactly when that time is. The fact is, if it is appointed you will not live past that point or go before that time.
You probably didn't need the Bible to tell you that but the Bible does say what happens after death and the results of what happens at this point are eternal. Most people have heard of Heaven and Hell and they do exist. It doesn't matter whether or not you believe it or not...they are real.
Perhaps you might say, but what if it isn't true? What if we really do simply just lie in the grave and rot? I will only answer that with another question and that is "but what if it is?". Imagine living the few years you are given not believing in Heaven and Hell and then, one day you find yourself in a predicament you can never escape. It's to late at that point. If you decided to live for Jesus and make Heaven your home all is well but if you didn't make that decision (deciding "not to decide" is the same as choosing eternity in torment) you are headed for torment of a magnitude the mind can not comprehend.
Perhaps before going any farther we should talk about the length of eternity. It's not just a long time that will eventually end. Its for keeps! Just think what you could accomplish if you had forever to do it. Not only would you complete the job but you could do it a million times over and still just be in the entrance phase of eternity.
Consider, as an example the distance to Alpha Centaury, the closest star to planet earth. It is only a few light years away from earth as compared to some stars that are billions of light years away. As close as it is it would still take over a hundred thousand years to get there traveling in the fastest known spaceship at this time. Fact is, in the space of eternity you could walk there. It would take a while, Somewhere around 99 million years walking at a normal pace if you travel non stop.
It is estimated that the earth weighs approximately 5, 973, 600, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000 kilograms. How many trips would it take walking to carry the whole planet to Alpha Centaury hauling only one kilo per trip? I'll let you do the math on that one but even without doing the math it is easy to see a very large number. All those kilos at 99 million years per kilo is a long time. You could easily pull this one off in eternity a trillion times over, even if you decided to make your trip to a star billions of light years away only hauling one ounce per trip.
So, What Does All These Crazy Numbers Have To Do With Why I Should Be Concerned About Where I'll Spend Eternity?
For one thing, all those years added up won't even make a dent in how long you will be where ever you end up. Imagine if you were to have to make a million trips to that star a billion light years away and think how bad it would be to be thirsty and walking through flames that don't consume you that length of time. One second of a flame against your skin is avoided at all costs, am I correct? Use your imagination if you will for a couple of minutes considering these facts. Think hard about it.
But, What Would I Do In Heaven All That Time?
For openers, you won't be suffering. Going to Hell is so much worse a mistake than tripping over a billion dollars to pick up a penny. I'm not saying you will never make a mistake but this is one you can avoid. Consider the following parable as told by Jesus:
Luke 16:19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
Luke 16:20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
Luke 16:21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
Luke 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Luke 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Luke 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
Luke 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
Luke 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Luke 16:27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
Luke 16:28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Luke 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
Luke 16:30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
Luke 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
That story was told approximately 2000 years ago. That rich man never did get that "dip" of water and never will. Movies could never describe the terror awaiting the lost souls in Hell.
But I Want To Be With My Friends And That Is Where They're All Going
Refer to verse 28 from above. Perhaps the rich man had the same thought as he walked through life in the direction that took him to where he ultimately ended up. He only wants to warn his friends of how bad the place is. Your friends wouldn't like it there either.
Okay, so this is a parable, a way in which Jesus often spoke to explain something, but the fact remains that it is the destination of unrepentant sinners. People who would end up there would not even wish it on another, in other words, it is not going to be a happy get together reunion party but a place of torment and suffering that has no end stretching way past the outskirts of infinity. YOU DON'T WANT TO END UP THERE !!!!!
So, What Should I Do?
First you need to repent. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. You need to start living right and quit doing evil.
Did you know there is a penalty for sin? Romans 6:23 The penalty for sin is DEATH!! And know this---you have sinned Romans 3:23 Admit it. You have sinned, just as everybody else in this world has. 1John 1:10 Do not let pride stand in the way of admitting that you have sinned. To get rid of sin in your life you need to confess it. 1John 1:9 There is nothing wrong about admitting to God that you have done wrong. Do it---the truth will set you free. John 8:32
Put you faith in God Hebrews 11:6 If you are to begin a new life you are going to have to trust God but know this: God will take you through anything that comes your way.
Jesus paid a very high price so that you could be free from your sins. Because He loves you so much He paid the penalty for your sins by way of a gruesome death of crucifixtion. John 3:16
Be baptized and believe Mark 16:16 Take this as a warning. If you don't believe in God you are doomed(and you're not going to like it when the time comes).
Tell everybody about Jesus and how He saved you. Mark 8:38
Do these things and choose the narrow road which leads to eternal joy. Matthew 7:14
You are now on the road to righteousness. There is no promise that it will be easy as many claim, in fact, you can expect the opposite of that. Jesus said that you will be persecuted. John 15:20 But, always keep in mind the reward for your enduring patience Matthew 5:12
There is so much more to learn and if you are pursuing Heaven you will need to study the Word of God. 2Timothy 2:15
Always, and I mean always keep in mind that the road to righteousness is not an easy one but as already mentioned your reward will be great. Going to hell is not a reward--it is punishment.
One last thing, this is a come as you are gathering. God does not look at fancy clothes and things like that but He looks into your heart. Do not try to impress God because you you're just not going to do it. God accepts you as you are. If you begin to study the Bible you will see that this is true. God is not looking for perfection but someone He can reshape. It doesn't matter what you have done..Paul, who wrote much of the New Testament was a murderer at one time. Jacob was a swindling, lying, cheating con artist. But God used all these people because they submitted to him. In God's eyes there is not wrong side of town. But as I keep saying, your reward is more than worth it where eternal punishment, well, dwell on that thought for a few minutes. It is never to late to change your life as long as you are still alive. There is nothing you or anybody else can do for you once you are gone as some would like you to believe but the idea you can be bought out of a place in between Heaven and Hell does not exist and is one of the oldest con jobs to steal money off of you. Seek God and His righteousness.
If you have just accepted Jesus you are in good hands. And even though all the good works in the world could never buy you a spot in paradise you are expected by God to do certain things, in fact if you read Matthew 25:31-46 you will see that you are expected to do the will of God and Matthew 24:13 tells us we must hang in there till the end.
This is not to be thought of as a bed of roses as you travel through this life but the bed of roses can be forever where as if you would rather have the bed of roses now then your choice to suffer eternally has been made.
Receiving salvation through the shed blood of Jesus is for you. It is something you need to seriously consider now because we all know that our next breath is not guaranteed. Don't wait. Don't put it off. Given the length of eternity and the shortness of life as we know it you really do need to give it priority.
God Bless You and looking foward to the day we can all meet again in glory.
You Only Get One Chance !
I would like to encourage everyone who reads this to accept Jesus as Lord of their lives and begin to study the Bible in a dedicated way.
